The Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” once called him "the most private politician in Tuscany," and perhaps never was there such a fitting definition. In the era of “political posturing”, when the appearance was worth more than the essence, the understatement characterising Guido Sacconi’s not-so-short activity is even more surprising. A serious person, yet not an aloof one. This becomes easily understandable when reading this ironic reconstruction of politics 'as seen from the inside', made up of people in the flesh, with many strengths and flaws, who are mercilessly and tastefully described in these pages. In these same pages, Sacconi also has some bones to pick, which he must have collected during his career. Therefore, in a psychoanalytic key, Guido shows the Puer inside of him to those who have always seen him as a senex.

Guido Sacconi

After two parliamentary terms at the European Parliament (from 1999 to 2009), Guido Sacconi concludes his long and varied commitment to politics and trade unions. In his ten years in Brussels, as a member of the Party of European Socialists, he was vice-president of the Environment Commission and president of the Special Committee on Climate Change. He was born in Udine in 1948 and grew up in Padua, then moved to Florence to enrol in the Course of Letters and Philosophy. At the age of 24, he was called to direct the Research Office of Florence’s Chamber of Labour, and would after that hold increasingly important roles. In 1990, he became secretary of the CGIL office of Tuscany, and two years later, after the birth of the PDS (the Italian Democratic Party of the Left), he was appointed regional secretary. In 1995, he was elected to the Regional Council, of which he would also become vice-president.
